Talesmith and Cineflix to co-produce Takaya: Lone Wolf for BBC, CBC, and ARTE

April 07, 2019

UK high-end factual indie Talesmith and leading international content producer and distributor Cineflix are co-producing Takaya: Lone Wolf (wt), a documentary special for BBC4, CBC, and ARTE which explores humankind’s historic relationship with wolves.

Takaya: Lone Wolf (1×60’, working title) is the remarkable story of a lone wolf living against the odds and its incredibly close bond with one woman, wildlife photographer Cheryl Alexander. The documentary is set on a remote island archipelago off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, which Takaya swam to and has chosen for a home. Despite being a highly social pack animal, Takaya lives a life of quiet isolation hundreds of miles from other wolves, existing entirely on a marine diet. The film is a captivating exploration of the connection and trust that Cheryl has forged with Takaya over five years.

Martin Williams, CEO and Creative Director of Talesmith, said: “Takaya: Lone Wolf will provide viewers with an inspirational story of one animal’s resilience, survival, and adaptability. But it’s also a story of how people interact with wolves, both through Cheryl’s extraordinary relationship but more widely about how humans can co-exist with an animal perceived by some as a dangerous threat.”

André Barro, Executive Producer, Cineflix added: “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with the talented team at Talesmith on this incredible and unique Canadian story. We’re expanding our co-production business at Cineflix Media and Takaya: Lone Wolf is a great example of an exciting partnership that combines expertise and resources to bring more engaging content to viewers worldwide.”

Takaya: Lone Wolf (wt) is an international co-production with Talesmith, Cineflix, and Wild Wolf Media for BBC, CBC, and ARTE. The documentary is executive produced by Martin Williams for Talesmith, André Barro for Cineflix, and Gaby Bastyra. Cineflix Rights has exclusive worldwide distribution rights.
