Trauma Doctors Save Lives with Channel 5

Feb 28, 2013

Conducting on-the-spot investigations, these trauma specialists use any clue they can get to unravel the mystery of their patient. We’ll witness the dramatic detective process unfold as the team make critical, split-second decisions to save lives.

Heading up the team is Dr Gareth Davies, one of the UK’s leading trauma specialists and medical director for London’s Air Ambulance. From helping patients in road traffic accidents to working on the aftermath of the 7/7 London Bombings, he and his team work at speed to solve the medical mysteries right in front of them.

This detective way of thinking is at the heart of this dramatic, life-or-death documentary series that uses stunning and stylised graphics to help viewers visualise the processes involved and gain an extra level of understanding.

Andrew O’Connell, Head of Factual, News and Current Affairs at Channel 5 says: “This series gives viewers an insight into the incredible work that our medical specialists do to save lives every single day. We have unrivalled access and are with the Trauma Doctors and patients every step of the way from the roadside to the Emergency Department.”

Camilla Lewis, MD, Cineflix Productions UK adds: “Channel 5 have been brave enough to ignore the trend for fixed rig, static observation, and commission a 360 degree series that will allow viewers to really get inside the minds of some of the UK’s finest frontline trauma consultants. We see how the medics piece together what has happened in an accident, identify the patient’s condition and work out how to treat it, all in the crucial seconds when their decisions can save lives. We are extremely excited about the potential to 'hear' action from key practitioners in this way. It's a technique we are developing in other genres."

Trauma Doctors will be made up of 4 x 60 minute episodes and the series is due to air in April. The series is being distributed internationally by Cineflix Rights.
