Hans Rosenfeldt’s International Hit Drama ‘Marcella’ Confirmed For Third Season on Netflix and ITV

Leading UK independent content production company Buccaneer Media today announces that multi award-winning screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt’s original drama series Marcella will return for a third season. Emmy Award-winning Anna Friel once again stars in the titular role.

The highly praised drama that has captivated audiences around the world, will return to screens globally in 2019 on Netflix andITV in the UK and Ireland. 

Anna Friel returns as Marcella Backland, a role for which she won an International Emmy Award in 2017. Anna was also recently nominated for a BAFTA for her role in Jimmy McGovern’s BBC drama Broken alongside Sean Bean.

Marcella will once again be produced by Buccaneer Media. 

Fresh from the continued global success of The Bridge, Hans Rosenfeldt is currently writing the new series of Marcella. The eight-part series will delve further into the psychology of the troubled detective and will be co-created by Hans Rosenfeldt and Nicola Larder (The Tunnel) and executive-produced by Buccaneer Media’s Tony Wood.

The agreement with Netflix was struck by Cineflix Rights, the sales and distribution division of Cineflix Media Inc., which holds exclusive international distribution rights to Marcella.  

Marcella has been re-commissioned by Polly Hill, Head of Drama.
