Cineflix Rights unveils scripted slate for MIPTV 2019

March 28, 2019

Cineflix Rights, the UK’s largest independent TV content distributor, has unveiled its slate of new scripted content launching at MIPTV 2019.

Headlining is Coroner (8×60’, Muse Entertainment/Back Alley Film Productions/Cineflix Studios for CBC Canada). Inspired by the best-selling series of books by M.R. Hall and created by Morwyn Brebner (Saving Hope, Rookie Blue), Coroner is a character-driven, close-ended episodic drama starring Serinda Swan (Ballers, Inhumans) as Dr. Jenny Cooper—a recently widowed, new coroner who investigates suspicious, unnatural or sudden deaths in Toronto. Reflecting the rich diversity of the city, each death brings Jenny into a new arena and sparks on buzzworthy themes.

Season two of Pure (6×60’, Two East Productions/Cineflix Studios for Super Channel Canada, WGN America, Hulu, and CBC Canada), thrusts viewers back into the world of the ‘Mennonite Mob’ a year after the death of kingpin Eli Voss. Abandoned by her husband Noah and excommunicated by her church, Anna and her children try to make a living in modern society. Determined to re-open the drug pipeline, a fixer for a Mexican cartel arrives with an offer Anna can’t refuse. Alyson Hannigan (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, How I Met Your Mother) joins the cast as Esther Dunkel, who has been helping her lawyer-boyfriend funnel a fortune in cartel cash through a local bank.

Cineflix Rights will also be providing a preview of two scripted shows in production which are due to deliver later in 2019.

Gripping new Icelandic political drama The Minister (8×60’, Sagafilm for RUV Iceland) stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Trapped, True Detective), as a populist Prime Minister with a worsening medical condition threatening the stability of the government and the private lives of the team around him.

Mirage (6×60’, Lincoln TV/Connect3 Media/Wild Bunch Germany for France Télévisions, ZDF, Bell Media, and Super Channel Canada) is set against the backdrop of a futuristic cityscape—on its glittering surface is a world of fabulous wealth and opportunity, but underneath hides a much darker and sinister side. The series tells the enthralling story of Claire, an expatriate starting over in Abu Dhabi with her son and boyfriend, who is propelled into the shadowy world of espionage after she discovers that her former husband, who supposedly died fifteen years ago, is alive. Mirage stars Clive Standen (Vikings, Taken), Marie-Josée Croze (Jack Ryan, The Barbarian Invasions), Hannes Jaenicke (Sardsch, Code Name: Eternity), and Shawn Doyle (House of Cards, Frontier).

Chris Bonney, CEO Rights, Cineflix Media said: “Coroner has already been a massive hit on CBC in Canada and Universal TV in the UK, and with season two in the works we have high expectations for the series globally. We’re thrilled to have Serinda Swan in Cannes for the worldwide launch of the series. Coroner joins the second season of fan favourite Pure in our scripted catalogue, and we’re excited to be giving our buyers an early preview of two incredibly exciting upcoming series—The Minister and Mirage which we think have enormous international potential.”
