Cineflix Rights, one of the UK’s leading independent television content distributors, has signed a series of deals with Scandinavian broadcasters for more than 300 hours of programming from Cineflix Productions and third party producers, in the lead up to MIPCOM 2013.
Highlights of the deals include The Day Kennedy Died (1x60’, Finestripe Productions for ITV1 UK and Smithsonian Channel US), timed to mark the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, which has been bought by TV4 Sweden, NRK Norway and DR Denmark.
Cineflix Rights’ growing crime catalogue continues to do well for broadcasters and the distributor, with TV4 Sweden buying seasons 5 and 6 of Unusual Suspects (26x60’, LMNO Productions), Murder in Paradise (6x60’, Cineflix Productions), Hollywood & Crime (6x60’, LMNO Productions), Wives with Knives (6x60’, Indigo Films), seasons 1 and 2 of Tough Nuts: Australia's Hardest Criminals (16x60’, The Full Box Productions) and seasons 1 and 2 of Claimed and Shamed (20x30’, Cineflix Productions).
Another genre performing well for broadcasters is lifestyle and property programming, with TV2 Norway buying seasons 1 - 4 of long-running brand Property Brothers (91x60’, Cineflix Productions). TV4 Sweden has also bought House Hazards (14x30’, Cineflix Productions) and seasons 2 - 4 of Cash Cowboys (39x60’, Cineflix Productions).
Cineflix Productions’ new medical series, Trauma Investigators, which was launched at MIPTV 2013, has now been recommissioned for a second, extended season on the UK’s Channel 5. The series, following its slot-winning first season performance, has been bought by TV4 Sweden (seasons 1 and 2, 10x60’).
Wildlife programming also continues to sell well, with Nelonen Finland buying season 2 of Wild Life at the Zoo (6x30’, Imagination), Zoo Tales: Australia's Biggest Baby (1x60’, Seven Network Australia), Miracle at the Zoo (1x60’, Seven Network Australia) and Zoo Tales: Baby Elephant Special (1x60’, Seven Network Australia). Additionally, TV4 Sweden has bought seasons 1 - 3 of Animal Rescue (55x30’, Imagination Television New Zealand).
All of the deals were brokered by Sandra Piha, Senior VP, Programme Sales, Cineflix Rights.
Chris Bonney, CEO of Rights, Cineflix Media said: “These latest deals reflect the strength of our ongoing relationships with key broadcasters across Scandinavia where our crime and lifestyle content in particular is successfully driving high ratings for our clients. We will be at MIPCOM with an expanded catalogue of content in these genres and look forward to securing more deals with our global partners. ”
