Cineflix Rights, one of the UK’s leading independent television content distributors, has signed an exclusive, first look development and distribution deal with Waddell Media, one of Ireland’s biggest producers. To capitalise on the deal, Waddell is launching a new International division focusing on major UK and US co-productions and new multi-platform media opportunities with branded content.
Waddell Media International (WMI) is already in development and production on a slate of new projects for global broadcasters, with Cineflix Rights securing financing for programming through a mix of presales and co-productions. The new deal has been supported and co-financed by Northern Ireland Screen and will allow Cineflix Rights to begin distributing Waddell’s content at MIPCOM.
The deal was negotiated by Cineflix Rights SVP of Acquisitions Noel Hedges and Waddell Media’s Creative Director Jon-Barrie Waddell, who recently ran their New York office. Waddell will continue to build on existing relationships with US networks and explore global synergies with UK and European networks and similar production companies as he oversees content for the new division.
Waddell Media is a leading producer of factual, lifestyle and entertainment programming for the UK, Irish and international markets. The company produces around 50 hours of television each year and internationally has won major commissions in the US from Discovery US, Military Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic and History. Recent programmes include: Future Weapons, How Jaws Changed The World, The Farm Fixer, 4.thought.tv, Texas Rodeo Tykes, Hip Hop Rev and Nick Hewer’s Countdown to Freetown.
Chris Bonney, CEO of Rights, Cineflix Media said: “We’re really excited to be working with the team at Waddell to help grow their international reach and support their richly creative development slate with our international expertise.”
Jon-Barrie Waddell, Creative Director of Waddell Media adds: “We’ve been aggressively targeting new opportunities in the international marketplace, with a number of high profile commissions soon to be announced. We have projects in development with a range of US networks we haven’t worked with before and this deal with Cineflix Rights will be key to furthering our expansion plans for the future.”
